New Station Entrance, Station Concourse and Access Improvements for South West Trains
Designs for the new Station entrance and Concourse were prepared by Robinson Kenning & Gallagher for South West Trains to accommodate increased ticket gate lines, ticket vending machines, new ticket office and concourse queuing areas and full refurbishment and extension of platform canopies.
In addition, new DDA facilities including lower height ticket counters and new lifts and stairs to both platforms were incorporated as part of continued Station improvements under the government’s ‘Access for All’ (AfA) scheme.
This exciting project included the complete demolition of the existing Station building and erection of a new zinc clad concourse, featuring a sweeping roof and part glazed entrance facade. RKG developed the scheme from initial concept design feasibility studies through to construction detail drawings and were further retained by the Contractor for construction phase and technical support.
