New Holding Compound for HMS Customs and Excise, Dover
Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were invited to join the ‘Design and Build’ team of Project Consultants to provide architectural services for a new build holding pound for illegal imports for HM Customs and Excise, in Dover.
The project consisted of one large portal framed building (90m x 80m) to provide 6,000m² of warehousing with an additional 1,200m² (over three floors) of office and staff accommodation. Additionally, the external works provided extensive hard landscaping totalling over 50,000m² for 1,200 cars and more than 200 HGV’s.
The main building consisted of two steel portal framed structures with 40m spans. External cladding was finished in powder coated, vertical pressed steel insulated panels. The insulated metal panel pitched roofs had a 12% area covered in rooflights. The Contractor successfully completed the twenty-six week construction project to programme.
