New Affordable Housing Residential Apartment Building, Croydon for Amethyst Property Holdings Ltd.
Robinson Kenning & Gallagher were employed by Amethyst Property Holdings Ltd. to explore the residential possibilities of land occupied by The Duke of Cambridge pub in Selhurst, Croydon. RKG designed a three part four-storey residential building comprising 11no. one, two and three-bedroom flats from feasibility through to successful planning approval. RKG worked closely with the Croydon Borough Planning Department Urban Design Officer to create a scheme that achieved a positive delegated decision.
The massing of the building sits comfortably within the streetscape and is subservient to the neighbouring five-storey high rise buildings. The flats were arranged to follow the existing building footprint and extend to the northern boundary of the site. The design included a flat on the ground floor which could be easily adaptable to a fully accessible wheelchair unit and associated car parking, cycle, refuse storage facilities and areas of solar/photovoltaic panels.
